My poem ~!

Canadian landscape of Montreal Island
Fire-Sea

Milly

The world was full of the gray,

but the fire-red

used it best to fight against gray.

The after glow of sunset at the margin of starry,

and interspersed the sky.

The trees in the distance,

like lots of ghosts waved in the wind,
also like the black smoke waved in the wind.
In the sky,
many colors are mixed together,
seem to the colorful life
or palette.

1. What is an alliance? What does this word mean?
An alliance is bond and means a connection based on kinship, marriage or common interest.
I think an alliance is marriage with other countries.

2. Why would Champlain want to form an alliance with the Hurons?
Because Champlain wanted to get well with Hurons. Hurons are great trader for fur. They would become the leading source of furs for the French. Hurons wanted to develop the New French fur grade.

3. This is a picture of Champlain and his Huron allies on the left fighting the Iroquois. This is one of the earliest images of Europeans and First Nations people interacting.

a. Explain what you see in the picture in 3-5 sentences. Look carefully at the picture.
This picture is they were fighting the Iroquois. They were fighting close to sea, so they had many boats. Two groups used owners' formation and everyone hold the bow. The arrows like the rain in the sky. On the left, they had a warehouse. In the middle of them, I think he is chief or general.

b. Do you think this is a realistic image of the situation? Explain why or why not in 5-8 sentences.
I think this isn't a realistic image of the situation, because I think they thought didn't have advanced weapons, they should had stranger and useful tactical deployment of troops. IT maybe liked the old Chinese war.

4. The Hurons had many economic advantages because of their geographic location and territory. They were located on the southern shore of Georgian Bay, where the fishing was excellent.

a. Find a map of Georgian Bay. Explain where this bay is.
This a map of Georgian Bay. The Georgian Bay on the top of this map and on the left. It between Hope Island and Giants Tomb Island.

b. Translate the word bay.
Bay is an indentation of a shoreline larger than a cove but smaller than a gulf.
I think bay is a small place or small isle close to the coast.
Bay in Chinese is 海湾.

a. How do you feel when you see this painting? Explain in 5-8 sentences. Tell me why you feel that way.

I saw this painting I feel the Georgian Bay's weather is badly. The stormy weather is less in the city or town. I think it's very fear and strong. Look the painting, the trees were blown crooked and Waves on the sea was flushed. The stormy made the world's color mixed. The trees were very staunch and plucky. We should studies for these trees. When we meet the different, if we have these trees' spirit, we can overcome our difficulties easily.

7. This is a poem by A.J.M Smith. It was put together with this image on a past provincial exam.
a. When you read this poem, how do you feel about the Canadian landscape? Explain in 10-12 sentences. Think deep and be creative.

The Lonely Land
A.J.M. Smith

Cedar and jagged fir
uplift sharp barbs
against the gray
and cloud-piled sky;
and in the bay
blown spume and windrift
and thin, bitter spray
snap
at the whirling sky;
and the pine trees
lean one way.
A wild duck calls
to her mate,
and ragged
and passionate tones
stagger and fall,
and recover,
and stagger and fall,
on these stones -
are lost
in the lapping of water
on smooth, flat stones.
This is a beauty
of dissonance,
this resonance
of stony strand,
this smoky cry
curled over a black pine
like a broken
and wind-battered branch
when the wind
bends the tops of the pine
like a broken
and wind-battered branch
when the wind
bends the tops of the pines
and curdles the sky
from the north.
This is the beauty
of strength
broken by strength
and still strong

My Feeling: This poem describes the lonely land in the Canada. It has four stanzas and it used personification, smile, rhyme and so on. His poem filled with both beauty and conflict. He described "grey and cloud-piled sky" and fills the soft image with "cedar and jagged fir," a much more bold and harsh image. Repetition in the second stanza made duck more humanization. One stanza, this part describes a conflict. It expresses stubbornness of spirit and perseverance.Second stanza said the lonely duck found its mate and repetition in this stanza make more colorful with this poem. Third stanza, author used a beauty of dissonance and what happened when the wind bends expresses the gray and terrible emotion. Four stanza, poet think the beauty of strength broken by strength and still strong. This poem paints a beautiful landscape and conflict emotion.

8. What did you learn in this lesson? Explain in 5-8 sentences.

Exploration!

I choose first topic: Exploration is important for countries.

This picture is a earth. The maker of the original of this globe is unknown to us. Hodiernal earth is many explorers’ masterpiece. They found many new lands and developed these lands. Such as Cabot found the Newfoundland, Cartier found the new land and called by Canada and so on. They are heroes for Canada. They made the original earth is plentiful and large. Now, many people can have hodiernal life, because they found the lands. It’s very important for country.

At this time, most of people have cars and machines in the world. The oil is absolutely necessary; so many explorers want to find many oils. The people's demand for oils is very large. Now, the oils are more expensive and taper off, but people in the world don’t live without oils. To have oils is many countries’ dream, because if he has oils, he doesn't need to worry live for people. Many countries have war because of the contested oils. I think explore the oils is very important for country.

The Fur Trade

1.www.gan.ca/campaigns/fur+trade/factsheets/
Look this beaver, I think it very lamentable. He should live in the nature. His life is very happy, freedom, relaxed. This time he may is playing on the grass or finding the food in the forest, but he is staying in the cage. It is looking out. I see its eager emotion showing in its eyes. I think that people do Fur trade are cold-blood and merciless. AI~!

2.http://www.turtletrack.org/Issues03/Co04192003/CO_04192003_

The hunter and the boss of fur store are trading. The hunter is looking his gun. He looks very supercilious. I think in his eyes only has guns and hunt. The boss is checking the fur. They are all the self-serving people, but I think the people buy the fur also have some mistakes. If they didn't buy the fur, the boss and the hunter didn't trade fur. Human is selfish, it's impossible to change. Human should think about the others in the earth.

I like this picture best, because the white seal looks very cute and lily-white. It is lying on the grass and enjoying the warmth from sun. It compare with the beaver in the first picture, it is very lucky and freedom. It can have its original life and complete life. Human's selfishness make they have different life.
The little white bear on the top of Snow Mountain and it was seized by fetters. It opened the mouth and wanted to ask for help. No one at here, nobody can help it. Only the merciless hunters hunt it and peel off the skin. Sometime may eat it. Human's merciless nature reflect this picture.

5.cat-chitchat.pictures-of-cats.org/2008/03/cat...
This is a fur store; it looks very dirty and sanguinary. The boss of this store is a cold-blood person. These furs are many lives of animals. They also live in the earth, but human hunt them and used for personal benefit. Humans that killing animals, don't worry about life threatened?
I think the earth is humans and animals mutual.

Bravery

Bravery

Bravery embodies a lot of places. Such as do some things at risk, be ready to do whatever one sees right, do some dangerous profession and so on. From ancient times to present-day, many heroes are very brave. I know some stories and about bravery. Sir Gawain in story "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight" and the other sniper in the story "The Sniper" can represent the brave people.
In the story "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight", Sir Gawain is the bravest Knight even when he faced death, he didn't evade and refused the temptation of Lord Westall to escape. For example, "The Green Knight was already swinging the axe. Gawain did not try to move away. Instead, he just closed his eyes." In short, he is a very brave person. Though everyone must face death, it's very dread for people. When he faced death, he didn’t run away and he was very calm. An added thought, Sir Gawain refused the temptation of Lord Westall to escape. His credit and uprightness can give his bravery add color. In this text, “The next morning, Lady Westall walked into Sir Gawain’s room and woke him. You must escape right now, she whispered. I will help you.” Sir Gawain said “oh, I would love to run away, but then I would be breaking a promise.” Thus, he is a upright, credit person. His bravery is a symbol for him, he is a brave hero. In summary, Sir Gawain is a character of brave knight, his bravery embody everywhere in the story. Such as from only he stepped forward, he led his horse through the snow in the North Country until he found a castle and so on.
Being a sniper is a dangerous profession. Everyone who does this job must be brave, because they may have menace for life at any time. In the story, "The Sniper", the antagonist other sniper is a brave character who can dedicate his life for his party and he does dangerous profession. The other sniper is a member of the Free State, so he also called the Free State sniper. This story tells about Republicans and Free States were waging civil war. At this time, the cities and country have more turmoil. These things made the other sniper's job more difficult, more dangerous and important. For instance, "The sniper looked at his enemy falling and he shuddered. The lust of battle died in him." Hence, though he was dead, he is very brave. His bravery is likes Sir Gawain’s bravery can face death. The other sniper’s profession is very dangerous and he did this job in the war. Everyone knows war is cruel and merciless, so his job is more dangerous, more difficult and important. In essence, the Republican sniper has many enemies at the same time. He does something must be carefully. When he was found, the enemy’s sniper hit him. Accordingly, though this example isn't the other snipers' thing, they do the same job. The Republican sniper's experience can told us this job is very danger. They life is like something on the rope as dangerous. On the whole, being brave is a trait of the Free State sniper, he is a sniper who can dedicate his life for his party and shows bravery when he was enforcing his task.
Sir Gawain in story "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight" and the other sniper in the story "The Sniper" can represent the brave people. Thought examples in the front, can know Sir Gawain and the Free State sniper are really brave and they show bravery in the stories. They like the brave soldiers in the world-war. They all do them best for finished the task. Though some people of them finish the task for personal benefit, we need to learn from them-they bravery.
