Who is Jacques Cartier?

1.Look this picture that i think Jacques Cartier is a grave,solemn man. I see he was standing on the deck, taking a telescope and lookouted into the distance. I know he like the John Cabot is a explorer from this picture.

2. This picture is many people of Jacques Cartier's team made the ship or repaired the ship.I see many people are very busy. Jacques Cartier was conducting his teammates make ship. I think he is a has capable, talent, and prestige people.

2. Post 10 facts about Jacques Cartier.
1.Jacques Cartier was a French explorer who claimed what is now Canada for France.
2.Jacques Caritier was born in December 31, 1491 and in September 1, 1557 dead.
3.He was frist European to descibe and map the the Gulf of Saint Lawrence and the shores of the Saint Lawrence River and it called "The country of Canadas".
4.He first voyage in 1534.
5.He second voyage in 1535-1536.
6. He Third voyage in 1541–1542.
7. He had five ships. There are called Grande Hermine, Petite Hermine, Émérillon, Georges, Saint-Brieux.
8. He found island and called Jacques Cartier Island, located on the tip of the Great Northern Peninsula in Newfoundland and Labrador in the town of Quirpon, is said to have been named by Jacques Cartier himself on one of his voyages through the Straits of Belle Isle during the 1530s.

3. Why is he important for the history of Canada?
Because he was frist European claimed Canada for France. He went to Canada three times and he found many new place for Canada. He called name for Canada. He made Canada more large, more famous, more people.
4. When was Cartier sent to Canada? Why was he sent to explore? Who sent him?
1.Frist time:1534 Second time: 1535-1536 Third time: 1541-1542
2.Because he wanted to explore. He wanted to find new land.

5. Find a map of one of his voyages. Post it here and explain his voyage. Where did he go? He went to St. Lawrence Iroquoians lake. He started at France to the St. Lawrence Iroquoians lake and came back at this lake.

6.First Nations people were the original people who lived in Canada before the Europeans came. Imagine how you would feel seeing the Europeans for the first time. What would you think? What would you say? What would you do?
If i seen Europeans the frist time, i frist tell other people this thing and discuss with other people how to do. I think those people are emenies.

a. When he got the Canda, he saw many people. He talked with those people and got fur from them. He set a cross ther, but the chief was very angry. The chief asked his sons to French. His sons learned a lot and went back.
b. He traveled a long time and found a new land. It' s very surprise for him to find many native people there. The native people were more enlightened, they have plant, dried vegetables, even tobacco, but there were so many sick people. They needed to go back,but they became to get scurvy. The chief helped them and they became better. They invited the chief to French, the chief agreeded, but he never went back.

8. What is scurvy? Find a picture of scurvy and post it on your blog.
Scurvy is a disease caused by a deficiency of vitamin C,characterized by swollen bleeding gums and the opening of previously healed wounds, which particularly affected poorly nourished sailors until the end of the 18th century.
9. What happened to Donnaconna?
Jacques Cartier wanted to send Donnaconna to France. Donnaconna accepted Cartier's invite. When he got on Cartier's ship, his men called his named all night long. Jacques Cartier left the land during the night and Donnacnna was never came back.
10. How would you feel if you were Donnaconna or the Iroquois people? Would you be friends with the French after this experience?
I feel very angry, because they are very aggressive. I will not be friend with the French after this experience. I think friend should be a good person. French were wild to take people from us. I won't forget them because they were our enemies!

11. Read page 221-222 of your textbook. The information on these pages are important.
